Hello my friends, how are you? Programmer here.
It’s been a while since I gave up on GitHub due to the use of Copilot, data language models and direct invasion of the codes placed there. Not because I deal with ultra-sensitive things (in fact, yes, my confidentiality agreements can generate fines that will bankrupt generations) but because these language models learn from our codes improperly and cause us to lose our digital programming signature.
The solution at the time was to have my own GIT server, which wasn’t worth an article here, but it’s cool and simple to do, you can transfer everything with SSH. But that generates costs. Projects can be countless, from clients that will only appear in 5 or 10 years and that’s complex.
So, going back to GitHub, seriously? It was still unfeasible, I thought about a Git server inside Onion to save domain and hosting resources, but even then it wasn’t good.
And there’s no point in talking about Atlassian and Bitbucket, because the privacy talk only gets worse
Then I found another service, Codeberg https://codeberg.org/ .
Codeberg has practically the same structure as Microsoft’s GitHub, with a visual interface, PGP keys, know hosts and branches, even the layout is similar (I didn’t see the green squares, but it’s worth it)
And the best part: it’s focused on user privacy. (I found the squares while writing this article)
Summary: it’s a non-profit organization focused on the privacy of Internet users, and Codeberg is just one of the projects they use to bring this to the world.
In addition, of course, there has long been the possibility of encrypting your entire GIT repository, just to be safe, but that’s a topic for another article.
It’s worth taking a look, huh!?
Oh, I’m already there, right? https://codeberg.org/lorenbot
